PBN Setup: An Operational Checklist

1. Domain assessment

• Review the full archived history, not just the last snapshot.
• Check referring domains for quality and for prior manipulation.
• Confirm no trademark or brand entanglement on the name.
• Verify the domain is not already penalized or deindexed before committing content work.
• Record acquisition source and date in your own inventory.

2. Registrar, DNS, and nameservers

• Spread domains across registrars rather than consolidating for convenience.
• Avoid identical nameserver pairs across the whole estate.
• Keep WHOIS and contact data consistent with the site's presentation, not with each other across the network.
• Set DNS TTLs sensibly so migrations do not force long propagation windows.
• Document every DNS change; undocumented DNS is the most common source of silent outages.

3. Hosting assignment

Assign the site to a hosting configuration that varies provider, data center, and IP range relative to your existing sites. On a managed platform this is a dashboard choice; on a manual stack it is an account you must open, pay for, and later maintain. See the provider categories for the trade-off.

4. WordPress installation and hardening

• Randomize admin usernames, table prefixes, and installation details.
• Enforce unique strong credentials and two-factor authentication where possible.
• Install a distinct theme and plugin set per site; identical stacks are a footprint.
• Remove default content, sample pages, and unused plugins.
• Enable automatic core, theme, and plugin updates, or use a platform that handles them.
• Provision TLS and confirm the certificate renews automatically.

5. Content plan

Publish a coherent set of pages before any outbound link exists. Decide the site's topic, its structure, and the publishing cadence up front. A site that gains its first outbound link on day one, on an otherwise empty install, is doing the pattern work for you.

6. Indexation and verification checks

• Confirm the site is crawlable and that robots directives are intentional.
• Verify canonical tags and that staging noindex flags were removed.
• Check that the domain indexes at all before investing further.
• Recheck indexation periodically; silent deindexation is common on repurposed domains.

7. Ongoing maintenance

Set a fixed cadence for update verification, backup restore tests, TLS checks, and uptime review. Hosting is one component of a PBN strategy — domain quality, content, linking discipline, and maintenance capacity determine whether the network survives.
